AN EXCHANGE BETWEEN SHEIKH PROFESSOR PALAZZI AND
ISRAELI AMBASSADOR ILAN HARTUV. SHEIKH PROFESSOR PALAZZI -- ISRAELIS
CRAZY TO GO ON WITH OSLO. ISRAELI AMBASSADOR HARTUV -- TALK ABOUT
ISLAM AND DON'T MEDDLE IN ISRAELI POLITICS!
JERUSALEM, 19 Tishri,
5759 (October 9, 1998), Root & Branch:
The following is an exchange that took place
between Shaykh Prof. Palazzi and retired Israeli Ambassador Ilan
Hartuv.
Israeli Ambassador Hartuv Asks:
Dear Proffesore Pallaci:
I admire very much your writings. I served as
the Minestro degli Affari Economici in the Israel Ambasciata
in Rome between 1986 and 1990.
I just do not understand how you can call the
PLO "gangsters" after they choose peace and
Chairman Arafat [Abdul Rauf el-Codbi el-Husseini] got the
Nobel Prize for Peace together with the two greatest Israeli
leaders, Rabin and Peres.
Ciao
Israeli Ambassador Hartuv
Jerusalem, Israel
---------------------------------------
Sheikh Professor Palazzi Answers:
Dear Ambassador:
Thank you very much for your encouraging
support. It is really a pity I never had the opportunity to
meet you during the years of your mission in Rome.
While dealing with a gangster
["Arafat" - Abdul Rauf el-Codbi el-Husseini] I mean
the boss of an organization who, by exercising violence,
intimidation and homicide, is able to earn a huge economical
property for himself and his closer associated.
As I have often repeated, in my humble
opinion the so-called peace agreement [Oslo Accord] is not
balanced, since Israel accepts supporting the PNA and even
arming his ["Arafat's" - el-Husseini's]
"police", receiving in exchange some written
declarations that are never implemented.
As for Peres and Rabin, while I admire the
latter for his military skill and results he gained for his
country as a general on the battlefield, I cannot but
remember the principle according to which the "best
soldiers are often the worst politicians and visa
versa".
According to my understanding of
international policy, Oslo was the first political defeat for
Israel after 1948, and the real risk implied was losing most
of what was conquered on the field in 1967.
How can people in Israel believe Arafat
[el-Husseini] is sincere in accepting peace?
Does it depend on the fact that most of them
do not read the "Palestinian" press and listen to
the PNA media? I personally understand Arabic, and can see
the difference between reliable treaties and diplomatic lies.
I also remember the late Anwar Sadat, and
consider Camp David Agreement as positive. This depends on
the fact that, after signing it, I never read in Cairo
newspapers or heard on Egyptian TV violent anti-Semitic
declarations, as well as constant anti-Jewish propaganda.
[Prof. Palazzi acknoweledges, in a recent letter, that,
sadly, this has changed for the worse, as Mubarak has
returned to the propogandistic style of Nasser].
On the contrary, after Oslo the tone of the
PNA media has never changed, the number of yearly victims of
[Arab] terrorism is not decreased, Arafat [el-Husseini] has
not refrained from declaring it is a temporary truce, and PNA
officials have not even amended their charter.
The consequence of this and Rabin's mistake
(legitimizing an international terrorist as a reliable
partner and as a candidate for the Presidency of a
"state") are now putting Israel in front of another
risk. After having been paid and armed by Israel according to
Oslo, now he ["Arafat" - el-Husseini] announces the
proclamation of the "Palestinian State", having
open borders with Egypt and Jordan.
As a friend, I ask from G-d protection for
Israel and enlightenment for Israeli leaders to understand
that declaring Oslo void is an urgent step to protect their
people and save their country. With best greeting, ciao.
Sheikh Professor Abdul Hadi Palazzi
Rome, Italy
Israeli Ambassador Hartuv Comments:
Dear Professor and Imam:
Pardon me if I'm impolite, but how dare you,
a foreigner tell me that my relatives and friends have to be
killed in useless, unending wars. You want us to return to
Gaza and Nablus. You don't want your fellow Muslims, the
Palestinians [Resident Arabs], to have a foothold. Bibi
[Prime Minister Netanyahu], who is a personal friend of mine,
told me that he knew that if he had not said that he was for
Oslo with slight changes, he would not have won the last
elections. May I advise you to stick to writing about Islam,
and not to make Israelis angry.
Israeli Ambassador Hartuv
Jerusalem, Israel
Sheikh Professor Palazzi Answers:
On the contrary, dear Mr. Ambassador, I hope
G-d will save Israel from being weak in defense and
surrounded by her armed enemies. I am glad to learn that not
all Knesset members agree with your magnification of Oslo and
the risks it implies.
In today's Arutz 7 News I read:
"MK Benny Begin (Likud) calls upon
the Prime Minister not to merely threaten, but to act at
once to halt the negotiations on an additional withdrawal
from Judea and Samaria. Speaking with Arutz-7 today,
Begin noted that a Palestinian [Resident Arab] state
headed by Arafat [el-Husseini] would have as its basis an
alliance between Arafat [el-Husseini] and Sheikh Ahmed
Yassin's Hamas terrorist organization, 'which gives us an
idea of the corruption and terrorism that it will
feature....For months now, Arafat [el-Husseini] has
permitted the broadcast of children's programs packed
with incitement; these programs show children calling for
'jihad' and the like. These are not on some underground
Palestinian television station - on the contrary, the
media incitement is
part of official PA policy....Arafat [el-Husseini] feels
quite free to air such messages, as he knows that he
faces no repercussions either from Israel or the
international community.' Begin observed that 'this same
'chutzpah' will also direct Arafat's [el-Husseini's]
behavior at the UN.' MK Begin added that Netanyahu's
warning that Arafat [el-Husseini] dare not issue a
unilateral declaration of a Palestinian [Resident Arab]
state is meaningless. 'Knowing that formal declaration of
such a state is seven to eight months away, the
government must draw a fundamental, logical conclusion:
Israel should halt any plan to provide Arafat
[el-Husseini] with more land, which would obviously give
greater substance to the concept of an independent
state,' argued Begin."
With best greetings,
Sheikh Professor Abdul Hadi Palazzi
